Facebook Users Bypassed The Ban On Crypto Ads

In the Facebook social network, there are still a lot of advertising messages about cryptocurrency projects and investments, despite the ban imposed by the platform on advertising of this kind.

Last week it became known that Facebook and Instagram banned the advertising of crypto, ICO and binary options. Facebook said its new policy was "intentionally broad" and would evolve.

It states:

Ads must not promote financial products and services that are frequently associated with misleading or deceptive promotional practices, such as binary options, initial coin offerings, or cryptocurrency.

However, despite the imposed restrictions, many users continue to see advertising on a prohibited topic.

The founder of Comae Technologies, a company specializing in cybersecurity, Matthew Suiche wrote on Twitter that Facebook users came up with a way to bypass the lock by attaching a screenshot with one such example.

He also explained how many bypass the ban: ads deliberately allow errors, so "forbidden words" pass through the filters of the system.

It's just ridiculous. Ads easily bypass the new rules of Facebook regarding crypto and ICO due to distortion of the text. BlTC0lN write with the letter L or with zero.

Some examples of ads that will be banned going forward that Facebook gave in its blog posts—such as “Click here to learn more about our no-risk cryptocurrency that enables instant payments to anyone in the world”—are largely indistinguishable from the ad Suiche posted, which stated “Google’s BlTC0lN strategy Is Helping People around the world to pay-off their debts and quit their jobs.”

We want people to continue to discover and learn about new products and services through Facebook ads without fear of scams or deception.
